About Madeleine

A flexible and animated light lyric soprano, Madeleine has appeared in the roles of Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, L'Ensoleillad in Chérubin, Noémie in Cendrillon, the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor and Eurydice in Orphée aux Enfers. She has also performed as a chorus member in productions of Eugene Onegin and L’Elisir d’amore. On the concert stage, Madeleine has sung solos in performances of Bach’s B Minor Mass, Handel’s Messiah and Purcell’s Hail Bright Cecilia. In 2021, she was thrilled to perform as a Young Artist at Waterperry Opera Festival in The Elixir of Love and the Young Artist Showcase.

As an ensemble musician, Madeleine is a member of voice and harp quintet Levedy, who in 2020 won the Carne Trust Chamber Competition adjudicated by Alan Davey (Controller of BBC Radio 3). In the past, she has toured Hong Kong, Australia, the USA, Germany, Switzerland and Canada with the Choir of Trinity College, Cambridge. With the choir she also recorded the works of CV Stanford, Ralph Vaughan-Williams, Gerald Finzi, and Cecilia McDowall, as both a member of the choir and soloist. Madeleine’s choral concert experience includes Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Matthew Passion and B Minor Mass, as well as Requiems by Mozart and Durufle.

While Madeleine is a competent sight-reader, she takes great care to ensure that she is prepared for each engagement in advance of rehearsals. She has performed numerous concerts from memory and has extensive knowledge of choral repertoire, and endeavours to ensure that each performance is thoughtful and musically informed. Madeleine believes that singing and performing are about more than merely precision - she enjoys giving passionate and expressive performances as both soprano soloist and chorus member.
